Last night’s episode picked right up from where the first half of the season ended, with group becoming emotional due to finding that the little girl they had loved and cared for became a walker and is now dead. Shane confronted Hershel, who had no idea Sophia was in the barn and ordered the group to get off of his land. This led to more tension between Rick and Shane who have been at odds over the leadership role of the group. The group rounded up all of the walker bodies and dug graves for Sophia and Hershel’s family members and burned the rest of the walkers.
From seeing all of his family members massacred in the barn shootout Hershel left the barn to go to a bar in town and started to drink again. Carol was distraught over her daughter Sophia’s death and Daryl who was the most active in the search for Sophia had distanced himself from the group because he believed he would find Sophia and she would have been ok. Glenn was left wondering what is next for the group since Sophia’s death was different from the others they have encountered because she was just a little girl. The characters are all trying to come to terms with the loss of Sophia and it will be interesting to see where it takes them in the coming weeks.
Lori tried to get Daryl to bring Rick, Glenn and Hershel back to the barn but he refused to go because he’s done so much for the group and if she wanted them back she could do it herself. This led Lori to go get them back but as she was driving she hit a walker and flipped her car and that was the end of that for the whole episode which made it kind of pointless but it will be dealt with next week.
The best part of the episode was the last twenty minutes where Rick and Glenn set out to find Hershel and return him to the barn. They found him in a bar in town, where he discussed with Rick how much of a fool he was for believing the walkers were just sick people who could be cured and he sees now that he was wrong after the barn massacre. While they were talking two guys entered the bar and were surprised that they were alive and not walkers. The two men were asking too much questions about where Rick and the others were residing which made Rick suspicious of them. The two men had guns and one was in front of Rick and the other was behind him, they tried to draw their guns on Rick, but he shot them both dead. This was a shocking way to end the episode because it showed Rick would do anything to protect his family and the group even if it means taking the lives of people who are threats to them. There is no better show than The Walking Dead, so check it out if you haven’t because it’s only going to get better.
