Van Halen - A Different Kind of Truth

A Different Kind of Truth is the first Van Halen album in fourteen years and the first with vocalist David Lee Roth in since 1984’s album 1984. It is also the first album with Wolfgang Van Halen who replaced Michael Anthony in 2006. Eddie and Alex Van Halen are still in the band having been the constant members since the beginning. The album is made of up material that has been around since the late 1970’s before the first Van Halen album was released. This news has many fans worried that this album is all leftover songs that weren’t good enough to be released around the time they were wrote. That is far from the truth because the decision to rework old songs has made this album a great comeback for Van Halen.

The whole band is playing great on this album and it is a true return to form for the band. David Lee Roth’s charismatic vocals, great lyrics, yeah’s and Woo’s really make this feel like a Van Halen album. Wolfgang and Alex Van Halen make for a great rhythm section and Alex does some great drumming throughout the album. Eddie Van Halen is on fire on this album with his great riffs and blistering guitar solos. It really makes you wish this wasn’t the first album in fourteen years because it is great to sit back and listen to Eddie play.

The lead single Tattoo captures the classic Van Halen sound and it’s a grower. You may not like it at first but if you give it a chance you’ll love it. Fans may be sceptical about the album after hearing this song but fear not this album is awesome. It can be listened to from beginning to end, without thinking about skipping any of the songs. There is not a bad song on this album. Some of the stand out tracks for the album includes Stay Frosty, Outta Space, As Is and She’s the Woman. This album is awesome and if you like Van Halen you should buy it because it is full of great songs and is sure to be the best rock and roll album of 2012.
